The people's democratic republic of Laos is located in the center of Indochina, sharing borders with China to north west, Thailand to west, Cambodia to the south, and Vietnam to the east.
Laos has a population of about 5, 5 million people and make up of 48 different ethnic groups with an are of 236, 800 square kilometres. Around 70 % of it's terrain is mountainous reaching a maximum elevation of 2, 820 m in Xieng Khouang province. The landscapes of northern Laos and regions adjacent to Vietnam in particular are dominated by hills. The Mekong river is the main geographical feature in the west forms a natural border with Thailand and some other areas. The Mekong flows through nearly 1, 900 km of Laos. In the south the Mekong reaches a breadth of 14 km, creating an area with thousands of lands. The capital Vientiane and all other major cities and towns are located of the bank of the Mekong river, while virtually every village depends on the vital bon between the land and water. The first kingdom of Laos is Lane Xang kingdom (the Land of Million Elephants).
Day 1: Vientiane - Vang Vieng
Upon arrival at Wattaya international airport, pick up and transfer to your hotel for checking in. In the afternoon, Vientiane city tour. Visit That Luang (The great stupa), Patuxai (Victory gate - Arc de Triomphe de Vientiane), Wat Sisaket, Ho Pharkeo (National Museum), Wat Simuong, Wat Ongteu... Shop at Talad Xao (Morning market). Then travel by car to Vang Vieng (150km). Visit Tham Jang caves, walk along Nam Xong river bank, sunset beyond mountais. Enjoy nightlife in town. Overnight in Vang Vieng.
Day 2: Vang Vieng - Luang Pra Bang
Breakfast at the hotel. Visit the local market. Travel by car to Luang Pra Bang. Many stop-overs to visit en route including tribal villages. Arrive in Luang Pra Bang in the afternoon. Luang Pra Bang city tour including: Wat Visoun, Thaat Makmo, Wat Sene. Climb up Phousi hill to see the sunset on Mekong river. Overnight in Luang Pra Bang.
Day 3: Luang Pra Bang
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to local boat pier for a boat cruse along the Mekong river to visit Pak Ou caves. Along the way visit Ban Sang Hai, where they make traditional sticky rice liquor. Back to LBP at noon. In the afternoon, excursion by car to Kuang Sy falls, visit villages en route. Return to town, visit Ban Phanom vilaage, hill tribe H'mong village on the way back town. Sunset ay Wat Siphaphout Thabat. Overnight in Luang Pra Bang.
Day 4: Luang Pra Bang Departure
Breakfast at the hotel. Vist local market, Wat Xieng Thong - the most impressive temple in Luang Pra Bang and the Naional Museum of Luang Pra Bang (former Royal Palace). Free at leisure until transfer to airport for departure flight.
